The company began manufacturing aircraft engines in the first years of its founding and in 1928 it started manufacturing cars, on March 7  Karl Rap created the company in partnership with Franz Bobo, the wealthy banker Cami Castiglione.  BMW did not start as an automaker, as it was making aircraft engines for the German Air Force in the name of Rap Motorinverk after the merger of Rap Motors with Motor Work, but after Germany lost World War , a ban on the manufacture of warplanes and their engines in Germany was caused by  Treaty of Versailles, so the company started to manufacture motorcycles and then decided to enter the world of car manufacturing with its first cars BMW 315.
